You ever have one of those days, when all you want to do is eat birthday cake ice cream and then fall asleep for like 8,258,324,982,374,893,274,983 hours?
Yeah....
me too.
We've got quite the busy schedule these days. Mostly because we have a yard.
An adult yard.
A beastly yard....
We have an acre of un- tamable land and I'm pretty sure it growls and eats itself up at night. We are reviving and starting a yard all at the same time, and it's exhausting!! Sure, we have some grass, and big trees, and a garden, but we have a whole buncha dirt and weeds too. Our yard is 1/6 grass, 1/2 dirt, and 95 % weeds.
(you read that right)
Idaho got this heat wave (along with the whole U.S.- global warming is real peeps) and it is killing that 1/6 of grass.
What do you do when everything starts drying out??
You water it more- right?
A few days later we realize that our trees look sick. They have wet rot. This basically means, that all of the water that we are giving our grass, to keep it alive, is killing our trees. I guess trees don't like too much water.... and now we have sickee-poo trees.
We have our broad leaf stupid weeds.
And earwigs and potato bugs.
And our rocks.
They take over everything.
So we work until 10 every night weeding, spraying, digging, picking and whispering reassuring words to our struggling yard. I pray for our little spot of land.
I never understood, "keeping up with the Jones's" until now. Hello perfect neighbors with the golf course lawn, next door. They are out there picking weeds and pine cones at 6 am.
Oh, and they use scissors, like kitchen scissors, but more fancy like, to trim their yard.
(insert jealous, eye roll).
The life of the retired folk.
Our poor yard....
But guess what?
Our corn is thriving!
It's like 2 1/2 feet tall! Oh, and our apple trees have baby apples on them! Our raspberries have berries on them, and our beans are looking more bean-ee.
Just call us farmer Brown (minus our lawn drama, and our leaking trees)!
It's all rewarding watching your baby seeds grow, and thinking,
hey, my kids are eating a block of cheese because i forgot to make them their third pb&j, and I have laundry shoved in just about every inconspicuous spot in the house, but at least my corn is real tall!
